Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member Myung Jae-sung Holds Meeting with Climate Tech Leader 'Deep.Plant,' Discusses Vision for Goyang-type Industrial Cluster

Discussions are gaining momentum for the establishment of a 'Goyang-type Industrial Model' that merges climate tech with the agri-food industry.

Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member Myung Jae-sung (Democratic Party, Goyang 5) held a policy meeting with Kim Cheol-beom, CEO of the leading Goyang-based climate tech company Deep.Plant Inc., on Friday, May 9th. They exchanged in-depth opinions on ways to connect the region's climate and agri-food industries and the need for policy support.

During the meeting, Assemblyman Myung noted Deep.Plant's recent selection as the top company at a 'Climate Tech Designation Ceremony' and stated, "Responding to the climate crisis is now a necessity, not a choice. It is crucial to establish a policy foundation so that companies with both technological strength and social value can grow stably."

CEO Kim Cheol-beom introduced Deep.Plant's technology patents and investment status, emphasizing, "Compared to the food cluster in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, Goyang City has a greater competitive edge due to its proximity to the metropolitan area and its potential to utilize a middle-aged and older workforce." He added, "By creating an agri-food-focused industrial cluster, a new 'Goyang-type Industrial Model' that combines climate tech and the food industry is possible." Citing Singapore's comprehensive food cycle plan as an example, he proposed creating an integrated ecosystem that covers everything from production and processing to sales and education.

In response, Assemblyman Myung stated, "Institutional barriers such as location regulations, permit restrictions, and challenges with utilizing public land must be resolved first." He promised, "I will work to create policies and systems that are genuinely helpful. Together with the citizens of Goyang, I will build a sustainable future for our city."

Meanwhile, Deep.Plant has developed 'Deep-Aging,' an AI-based meat analysis equipment that contributes to reducing food waste and promoting sustainable consumption, with sales of approximately 1.5 billion won as of 2024. Its food tech technology is gaining attention as a next-generation industrial model, creating high added value by aging less-preferred cuts of meat (about 70% of a carcass) in special equipment. This not only improves taste and quality but can also lead to lower consumer prices.
